The Center
for Strategic Learning Systems (SLS) was formed in
October 2005 as a response to the current movement in education
to develop and provide innovative systems of personalized
education on school campuses. Dedicated to the philosophy
that every student has a right to learn in an environment
that focuses attention and opportunities according to their
unique needs and learning styles, the Center works to provide
research-based data and strategies that can be flexible and
responsive to the community and the student. As part of the
Responsive Education Solutions system of schools, SLS practices
the belief that every child can learn and every child matters.
The Center is a recognized International
Learning Style Center associated with the International
Learning Style Network. This community of learning style
centers, operating world-wide and founded by Drs. Rita and
Ken Dunn, is based out of St. John’s University in
New York. SLS currently operates collegially with the network
to keep current on learning style education and provide
the latest in methodology and practice.
SLS, working within the
Responsive Education Solutions environment, provided the
framework for the RES district
to become one of the first 200 school systems in the nation
to achieve system accreditation with the Southern Association
of Colleges & Schools. The Center also provided the
framework for RES to achieve
distinction as a learning styles system of schools affording
individualization for students based on their unique style
of learning.
The Center is located within the campus
of Vista Academy in Hickory Creek, Texas. This relationship
affords research opportunities for personalized education.
SLS is actively involved
in researching, developing, and implementing current methods
designed to provide optimum opportunities for students.
Through the work of SLS,
this campus is developing the latest methodology of “Horizontal
Learning Paths” blending direct instruction structural
environments with personalized components of learning using
technology.
The Center is also involved in providing training and
education in several aspects of today’s academic arena.
SLS works to stay current
and act as a research base for these various environments.
The Center is providing opportunities for educators and
stakeholders to learn more about these components through
professional development, speaking opportunities, and training
events. These components include: |
